Following a competitive application process and interview I was selected as a researcher (alongside my colleague Esther Brot) on this project to investigate Somerset House’s links to British colonialism, slavery, and the slave trade between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries. Our 4000-word research report, completed between March and July 2021, will be used to inform Somerset House’s ongoing anti-racism programme, which involves revising signage and displays at the institution. I will also be collaborating with artists, dancers, and poets who will use our research findings as the basis for a wide-ranging programme of public engagement.
